The Maldine C. Dowdy Scholarship is awarded to graduating high school students and/or college students. Selection is based on financial need, academic achievement, merit, likelihood of finishing, strength of personal statement and an indication that the applicant is progressing towards laying a foundation for an undergraduate degree.
The scholarship is designed to provide an educational opportunity to a student who is well deserving, but does not have the financial means necessary to continue their academic studies. In order to qualify for a scholarship, the applicant must have been accepted for admission to an accredited four year university/college. Special preference will be considered for all applicants attending the Newark, NJ area high schools and students who intend to study business management or other forms of business education.
All eligible students are to forward the completed application, academic progress reports, academic or athletic achievement awards, letters of recommendation and transcripts to the William J. Dowdy Selection Committee, Attn: Jalil Dowdy, 25 Brenner St, Newark, NJ 07108.
Annual Scholarship Breakfast
Every year, the foundation sponsors a breakfast to honor the winners of the Maldine C. Dowdy Scholarship. Each of the high achieving students plan to attend well respected colleges and universities at locations all across the United States.
